How to care for your new jewelry

  • To care for your jewelry on a daily basis, wipe it down with a soft cloth.
  • Wash your jewelry 2-4 times a month in warm soapy water. Scrub with a soft toothbrush to remove buildup. Rinse, pat dry, allow to air dry completely.
  • If you've been sweating or swimming, give your jewelry a quick wash while showering.
  • When not worn, store in an airtight baggie.

All about gold filled jewelry

It is important to know what your jewelry is made of to avoid skin irritation that can be caused by cheaper jewelry. Gold filled is 5% gold bonded to sterling silver or another base metal. For comparison, gold plated jewelry has less than 0.5% gold. 

Gold filled jewelry will last at least a life time with proper care and with such a thick layer of gold, your everyday activites will not wear it down.

All about sterling silver jewelry

Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and 7% other metals to make the silver stronger. This is why my jewelry either has a quality tag stamped with 925, or the jewelry itself (like earrings and rings) come with a stamp saying 925. Wearing your sterling silver is actually what keeps it from tarnishing longer as your body oils protect the jewelry. However, the added metals in sterling silver will cause it to darken over time with exposure to air. This is easily remedied with regular cleaning or tarnish removers.
